Dawn

Farewell to the craquelure of stars
and static crackle of grackles.
These wishes, these velleities of planets
littered in the wake of dawn’s chill…
the light is leaving you behind.
In rising traffic, risen wind and steam,
the flittered dawn blows clear
your homely mind. You’re free,
and no one now, as you pass, stepping barefoot
into the pink and gilded spectra,
your mouth murmuring like a fountain-faun
slumbering a century in stone.
